YOUTH EVENTS
Summer 2022

Summer Youth Interns Amanda Sternitzke and Ben Merola have some great events lined up for July and August for our middle and high school students. Youth are encouraged to bring friends!

Please use the REGISTER link below to indicate which events your child will be attending. Parent chaperones and drivers are also needed, please select which you are able to attend. Activities held following VBS do not require specific registration, but please register to volunteer by clicking here.

Payment for outings* can be made by check to Saint Matthew's (please note the event in the memo line) or online at stmtts.org/give. Choose General Donation and note the event in the memo line.)

*For any cost-based events, scholarships are available on an as-needed basis, please contact Miriam at office@stmtts.org.

Beach Bash at St. Matthew's!

Friday, August 5th | 6 PM - 9 PM

Our Beach Bash is going to be an outdoor, summer extravaganza! We will have volleyball, glow sticks, water balloons, yard games, a slip and slide, and all sorts of summer fun. You should definitely join us from 6-9 pm at the church. Parents are asked to contribute to our picnic food offerings for this great event. Register today at stmtts.org/youthevents

Escape Room

Thursday, August 11th | 1:30 PM - 4 PM

Let's go to Escape Room Herndon as our final event. Please meet at the church at 1:30 pm.  The estimated pick-up time back at church is a little after 4 pm. The cost will be approx. $30 a person (an exact cost will be determined once we have a final count) and should be paid by August 4 to reserve your spot. Payments can be made online at stmtts.org/give - Select General Giving and type Escape Room in the memo line. Chaperones/drivers are needed and are welcome to participate. Movie Night - The Rise of Gru, Dulles Town Center

Thursday, July 7th | 6 PM - 8:45 PM

Meet outside Regal Dulles Town Center theatre entrance at 6 pm to have dinner in the food court followed by a 7 pm viewing of Minions: The Rise of Gru. Youth will be ready for pick up at approximately 8:45 pm. Please fill out the google form and submit payment to the church office by July 5th if you are interested. The price is $15 for an adult and $10.75 for a child. Youth should bring their own money for dinner and movie snacks. Pay for your movie tickets online at stmtts.org/give - Select General Giving and type Minions Movie in the memo line.

7/11 Slurpee Day & Volcano Island Water Park

Monday, July 11th | 12 PM - 4 PM

We will be taking a trip to the local water park Volcano Island followed by a celebration of 7/11 day with FREE Slurpees at the local 7/11. Meet at church at noon. Bring your own money for park entry. The cost for everyone over 48 inches in height is $10.50 per person. We will pick up Slurpees and return to the church by 4 pm. Chaperones willing to drive would be greatly appreciated. 

Youth Service Project - LINK Food Distribution

Tuesday, July 12th | 9 AM - 12 PM

Youth service project with LINK from 9 am-12 pm at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church (46833 Harry Byrd Hwy, Sterling, VA 20164). We will be packing and distributing pre-packaged foods and fresh produce to families in need. Youth are asked to collect large-size diapers and feminine hygiene products (specifically pads) in advance. Kids can give out flyers to friends and neighbors and collect supplies to store at the church or just bring them with you. Parishioners can donate as well by dropping supplies at the church. Parents drop youth off at Christ the Redeemer at 9am and pick them up around noon, but we would still love to have parent chaperones to supplement the event. 

Hike at Great Falls - Register by July 19 at 12pm

Wednesday, July 20th | 3 PM - 7 PM

Meet at church at 3 pm to drive over to River Bend Park, which is adjacent to Great Falls Park. We will hike into Great Falls Park and its overlooks and return to the church around 7 pm. We request that kids bring water, snack, and a packed dinner with them to eat after we hike out of the park before driving home.

​​Vacation Bible School - Youth Evening Events

July 25 - 29 - Register to volunteer!

We would love to have middle and high school students help run VBS. As a special reward, after each day of VBS, there will be a fun activity for the volunteers. Sign up to volunteer and stick around after the day is done for our super fun youth group evenings. Attend each evening, or the events of your choice.

 

Monday, July 25 - Ice Cream Sundae Bar, Parish Hall, Pick up at 9:30pm

Tuesday, July 26 - Youth Group Scavenger Hunt, Parish Hall, Pick up 9:30pm

Each team will need at least one cell phone with the Goosechase mobile app. Take pics once your team has found each item. The winning team gets to choose the movie for our Wednesday night activity. Snacks will be provided.

Wednesday, July 27 - Movie Night - Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle Parish Hall, Pick up at the end of the movie. Pizza and popcorn provided. The winning team from Tuesday will choose the movie for Wednesday evening. Movie choice will be posted here on Wednesday by noon.

Thursday, July 28 - Coffeehouse, Parish Hall, Pick up 9:30pm. This event is for all youth to share their musical talents. Snacks and basic music equipment such as amplifiers and microphones will be provided by the church. If you play a specific instrument and/or would like specific sheet music, we encourage you to bring that with you. Even if you don’t want to perform, we encourage you to stick around after VBS to listen to great music and enjoy snacks!

Friday, July 29 - Slip n Slide Kickball! Front grass, Pick up at 9:30pm. Be prepared to get wet and have lots of fun! A change of clothes that you are willing to get wet after VBS is encouraged for participation and a towel, bug spray and a water bottle might also be good items to have on hand. We'll be using kiddie pools as the bases. Snacks and kickball equipment will be provided. If any parents are willing and able to loan kiddie pools or slip n slides for the game that would be greatly appreciated.
