Help feed 300+ children at St. Mathieu's School in Chapoteau, Haiti
It costs $100 a day to feed the 300+ students at St. Mathieu's School
Every cent raised at the Haiti Benefit Concert & BBQ will feed the children of Saint Mathieu’s School in Chapoteau for the entire school year. For many of these students, that school meal is the only one they will eat each day.
A few years ago, the school’s prior food sponsor suddenly discontinued support, leaving the 300+ children with nothing. Since then, St. Matthew’s has stepped in to keep their plates full, but the need is greater than ever.
In just the last decade, the people of Haiti have endured crisis after crisis:
-
Earthquakes, hurricanes, and famine that destroyed homes and crops
-
Escalating political instability that has driven many support organizations to leave the country
This year, violence has reached the central plateau where Chapoteau is located. Gangs have invaded nearby towns, forcing thousands to flee. Refugees arrived in Chapoteau with nothing, and Saint Mathieu’s School became a place of shelter and sustenance.
Our Call to Love in Action
Where better for St. Matthew’s and the Sterling, VA community to live out our mission “To Know and Share God’s Love” than in partnership with a school in Chapoteau, Haiti?
Our church already has a long tradition of feeding those in need, through the Celebration Garden, Backpack Buddies Program, Holiday Food Drives, and support for LINK Food Pantry.
Feeding the 300+ schoolchildren and teachers in Chapoteau is a natural extension of that mission, reaching across borders to ensure no child sits in a classroom hungry.
