What happens if it rains on Easter?

Easter happens! In 25 years at St. Matthew’s, weather has never canceled Easter, and it won’t this year either. All three services and events go on as planned, and in fact, may be even better.

Here’s what to expect if it rains:

  • The 6:00 AM Easter Sunrise Service, including the Paschal fire and a very special baptism, goes on beautifully. If it rains, the Paschal fire moves to our patio so you stay dry while experiencing this ancient and moving tradition.

    • Easter Brunch in the Parish Hall continues as planned regardless of weather.  Just come. We’ll take care of everything else.

  • Our 9:30 AM and 11:15 AM services are fully indoors — warm, joyful, and exactly as planned with kids and youth programming at 9:30 AM.

    • The Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Bunny meet & greet between services moves to the parish hall and becomes an even bigger celebration: kids receive goodie bags filled with Easter eggs, enjoy face painting, Easter crafts and activities, and still get their photos with the Easter Bunny.
