Advent Wreath Prayers for Kids

Advent Wreath Prayers

The Advent wreath is a fun and meaningful way to count down to Christmas! Each week, we light a candle and talk about what it means as we wait for Jesus to come. The light from the candles gets brighter and brighter, just like Jesus, the Light of the World, who brings hope, peace, joy, and love into our lives.

  • What the Wreath Means:

    • The round shape reminds us of God’s never-ending love.

    • The green leaves represent the everlasting life Jesus gives us.

    • The candles remind us that Jesus is the Light of the World!

  • Colors of the Candles:

    • Three purple candles: For hope, peace, and love.

    • One pink candle: For joy!

    • Optional white candle: For Christmas Day, representing Jesus.

How to Use Your Advent Wreath

Each week, light one more candle, starting with a purple one. Say a prayer together, and if you want, talk about the Bible story for the week. On Christmas Day, light the white candle to celebrate Jesus’ birth!

First Week: Hope

Light one purple candle.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for giving us hope. Help us to trust you and get our hearts ready for Jesus. We can’t wait to celebrate his birthday! Amen.

Activity Idea: Ask everyone to share one thing they are hoping for this Christmas.

Second Week: Peace

Light two purple candles.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for giving us peace. Help us to slow down when things feel busy and remember that Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Let us be kind and share your peace with others. Amen.

Activity Idea: Talk about ways to bring peace to your family or school, like saying kind words or helping someone in need.

Third Week: Joy

Light two purple candles and one pink candle.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for filling our hearts with joy. Help us to remember that the best gift is your love and Jesus. Make our joy so big that we share it with everyone we meet. Amen.

Activity Idea: Have a “joy scavenger hunt” by naming things that make you happy this week!

Fourth Week: Love

Light all four candles.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to be with us. Help us share your love with our family, friends, and neighbors as we get ready to celebrate Christmas. Amen.

Activity Idea: Draw a heart and write or draw inside it how you can show love to someone this week.

Enjoy celebrating Advent as a family and watching the light grow brighter each week!
